Influenza Control Plan

Influenza Control Plan

This year the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices issued its latest recommendations, and among the most prominent of these was that of universal flu vaccination for healthcare workers. According to ACIP:
"Because of their contact with patients or infective material from patients, many health-care workers (HCWs)(e.g., physicians, nurses, emergency medical personnel, dental professionals and students, medical and nursing students, laboratory technicians, hospital volunteers, and administrative staff) are at risk for exposure to and possible transmission of vaccine-preventable diseases. Maintenance of immunity is therefore an essential part of prevention and infection control programs for HCWs."
The intent of this book is to give healthcare facilities the framework to initiate their own influenza control plan and to increase employee participation in immunization campaigns, with the goal of 100% compliance. It is structured with sections on policies and procedures, information and resources, and tools and checklists.

Some of the content you will find in the influenza control plan:
  • Information on the influenza virus and transmission
  • Isolation precautions
  • Cough etiquette
  • Flu vaccine
    • Types of vaccine available
    • Indications/contraindications
    • Vaccine information sheets
  • Forms for
    • Declining/acceptance of vaccine

  • Flu education outline
  • Tools for compliance improvement
    • Reasons why the vaccine is declined and ways to refute them
    • Essential components of an immunization campaign
    • Immunization program planning
    • Ideas for promoting a campaign

The book comes with a CD-Rom containing all content so you can customize it for your facility.
