 This program has been developed to provide training on resistant organisms, with emphasis on prevention strategies specific to acute care facilities. Prevention strategies discussed include:
use of Standard Precautions, Contact Precautions, antimicrobial use, and hand hygiene. Also discussed are issues regarding colonization, transmission, and risk groups of some of the most common organisms found in acute care facilities: Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus (VRE), Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase producers (ESBLs), and C. difficile. The program has been written based on the CDC’s 12-Step Program to Prevent Antimicrobial Resistance, and explains the details of each step in an easy-to-understand format.
