Infectious diseases of recent concern
This new program focuses on several infectious diseases which have recently emerged or re-emerged, including SARS, Avian Influenza, West Nile Virus, Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers(VHFs), Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, Multi-drug resistance, and more. The program is based on the fact that many infectious diseases have been known to emerge, mutate, or change geographically by being imported or otherwise introduced into areas where they had not previously existed, thus emphasizing the need for surveillance and the proper reporting mechanisms. It includes organism-specific information, signs and symptoms of infection, modes of transmission, prevention strategies and history of outbreaks.
The program comes on a CD-Rom in Microsoft PowerPoint, and is accompanied by a packet of supplemental materials that include:
-
An introduction that states the program’s goals and objectives, and gives the presenter a few guidelines for presenting the program.
